The park takes its name from the majestic Golden Gate Pass which links it to Lesotho. This is a spectacular sight that can be seen from many places in the park. The pass was formed by water erosion over millions of years and was part of a trade route that linked southern Africa with Europe and Asia during prehistoric times.
